마르타 메사로시는 자신의 개인적인 경험을 바탕으로, 격동의 역사적 순간 속에서 성인이 된 한 젊은 여성의 초상화를 그려냈습니다. 스탈린주의 숙청으로 아버지를 잃은 강인한 10대 소녀 율리는 1947년 헝가리로 돌아와 공산당 고위 관료  마그다와 함께 살게 되며, 마그다는 율리를 양딸로 삼으려고 합니다. 그러나 마그다의 냉담한 태도에 고통받는 율리는 영화관에서 위로를 찾고, 자유로운 엔지니어 야노시에게 의지합니다. 다 지적 탄압을 직접 경험하게 됩니다. 이 영화는 정치적 격변 속에서 고립과 상실을 경험한 소녀의 성장기와 관료주의에 대한 비판을 담은 작품으로, 픽션과 다큐멘터리가 혼합된 흑백 화면으로 표현됩니다. . 

칸영화제 그랑프리를 수상한 ‘내 어린 날의 일기’는 과거의 트라우마를 비판적이고 명료한 시선으로 재조명한, 마르타 메사로시의 가슴 아픈 개인적 고백입니다.

Márta Mészáros portrays the coming-of-age story of a young woman shaped by a tumultuous historical period, drawing from her own personal experiences. Julie, a resilient teenage girl who lost her father during Stalinist purges, returns to Hungary in 1947 to live with a high-ranking Communist official, Magda, who intends to adopt her. However, Julie suffers from Magda’s cold demeanor, finding solace in the cinema and leaning on János, a free-spirited engineer. Through these experiences, she witnesses intellectual oppression firsthand. This film is a coming-of-age story of a girl who experiences isolation and loss amidst political upheaval, and it offers a sharp critique of bureaucracy.  

It blends fiction and documentary in black-and-white cinematography. Diary for My Children, which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, is Márta Mészáros' poignant personal confession, revisiting past traumas with a critical and clear perspective.
