The third installment of Márta Mészáros's autobiographical diary Tetralogy, following Diary for My Children and Diary for My Loves, this moving film tells the story of Juli, a young orphan navigating the turbulent post-war period in Hungary. Set against the backdrop of the aftermath of the failed 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the film follows Juli as she returns to Budapest after graduating from the Moscow Film School, only to find a world devastated by the increasing control of Soviet forces. As brutality, fear, and uncertainty permeate every aspect of life, Juli confronts the harsh realities of a broken society.

Mészáros weaves a poignant human drama, bearing witness to the horrors of totalitarian oppression and the courage of those who resist it. Based on her own experiences, she presents a historical narrative in a personal and intimate portrait.
